bit21

Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2026

1. Overview

bit21 ("we", "us", or "the App") is an open-source, self-custody Bitcoin wallet. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. bit21 does not require an account, registration, or any identity verification (KYC) to use.

2. Information We Collect

Bitcoin addresses and public wallet data. To display your balance, transaction history, and unspent outputs (UTXOs), the App sends your Bitcoin addresses to public blockchain data providers. Bitcoin addresses and on-chain transactions are public information on the Bitcoin blockchain by design.

Notification data. If you opt in to price alerts or wallet/Radar alerts, a device notification token (provided via Firebase Cloud Messaging) — and, where needed to monitor specific activity, the Bitcoin addresses or alert thresholds you choose to track — are stored on bit21's notification server solely to deliver the alerts you requested.

Network information. When the App contacts the third-party data providers listed in Section 5, those providers automatically receive your device's IP address as part of the network connection.

We do not use analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting trackers in the App.

3. Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, government ID, or any KYC information. The App does not require account creation, registration, or login.

4. Your Keys Stay on Your Device

Your recovery phrase and private keys are generated and stored locally on your device, protected by your device's secure storage. bit21 never transmits, receives, or stores your recovery phrase or private keys, and cannot access, move, freeze, or recover your funds. You alone control your Bitcoin.

5. Third-Party Services

The App connects to third-party services to function. Each receives only the data needed for its purpose — including your IP address — and is governed by its own privacy policy:

We do not control these providers and recommend reviewing their privacy policies.

6. Notifications

Notifications are optional. If you enable them, a device notification token is generated through Firebase Cloud Messaging (a Google service) and stored on bit21's notification server — together with any addresses or thresholds you ask us to monitor — only to deliver the alerts you set up. You can turn notifications off at any time in the App or in your device settings. We retain notification data only while notifications are enabled; disabling them or removing the App stops their use, and you may request deletion of any remaining server-side data (see Section 9).

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your information for advertising or marketing purposes. We share data only with the service providers listed in Section 5, as needed to operate the App, or where required by law.

8. Security

Private keys and recovery data are stored using your device's encrypted, secure storage and are never transmitted to us. We apply reasonable technical measures to protect any data we do hold. No system is perfectly secure, and you are responsible for safeguarding your device and your recovery-phrase backup.

9. Your Rights and Choices

10. Children's Privacy

bit21 is not intended for anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has provided us data, contact us and we will remove it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above will reflect any changes, and material changes will be communicated in the App.
